Production Requests
In support of George Mason University's strategic priorities, GMU-TV assists with the creation and development of instructional materials training and promotional tapes, modules, and courses suitable for television broadcast. To facilitate this mission and to insure high quality instructional materials, GMU-TV invites proposals from academic departments and faculty members who wish to develop such materials. The following procedures help to provide the most effective support for these projects.

Instructional Video Contract Copyright Issues

Initial Meeting Faculty or departments interested in instructional videos should call and arrange for a tour and a meeting with an instructional video producer. GMU-TVis located on the 4th floor of Innovation Hall. Our phone number is 993-3110. During this initial meeting,  the GMU-TV staff will explain the options  and technology available for video and show some examples of GMU-TV work. This initial meeting will also serve as a brainstorming session to help you envision the best way to present their particular material via television and provide the framework for an Instructional Video Proposal.  After this initial meeting, GMU-TV staff will continue to provide assistance in developing the proposal and a script for the project. Tape costs are a consideration depending on the size of the project, GMU-TV reserves the right to ask the department to pay for tapes.

Instructional Video Proposal Faculty members or departments interested in developing video material for broadcast should submit a written Instructional Video Proposal  to GMU-TV. The proposal should include the following information:

  • Project Title
  • Sponsoring department
  • Brief project description (e.g. whole course, several modules, one module, supplementary instructional material, promotional material)
  • Relationship of the project to University curricular initiatives (e.g. TAC) or other strategic priorities
  • Intended audience
  • Expected enrollment or use of the material
  • Suitability of material for television medium
  • A rough outline of content and general idea of expected look and feel of the video
  • An outline of the specific support required and who will be providing the support
  • An outline of development and a production timetable

The completed proposal must be signed and dated by both the faculty member and the department chair or appropriate dean/director. Instructional Video proposals should be sent to GMU-TV at MSN 1F3.

Review and Selection GMU-TV reviews instructional video proposals three times a year and sets a production schedule for one semester in advance. Proposals should be submitted by the following deadlines for consideration:

  • Summer Production: March 1st
