The Gault
Award began in August of 1999 as a tribute to it's namesake,
Erik Gault.
The Division of Instructional
Technologies (DoIT) was a diverse group with many different
departments working toward similar goals. But there was a lack of
cohesion. The departments of DoIT often found themselves facing
problems and issues that others had previously addressed. With little
communication between departments, much time and energy was wasted
while tackling such tasks.
In a flash of selflessness, Erik Gault of the Instructional
Resource Center (IRC) answered a call for help from another
department of DoIT. The task was arduous and the difficulty great.
Erik perservered and did not rest until he had helped his
departmental brothers and sisters.
Recognizing the magnitude of Erik's selfless act, the Gault
Committee was established to inspire other DoIT members to reach
for the level Erik had achieved, the highest level of self-sacrifice.
It is in this spirit that the Gault Committee continues to
encourage and inspire the gallant and noble trait, that which we
call Gaultness.
